( Africa)<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>According to the Constitution of the Republic of Zimbabwe, the President is ultimately responsible for the pronouncement of the foreign policy and international relations direction of Zimbabwe. It is the President\u2019s prerogative to appoint heads of mission, to receive foreign heads of mission, to conduct state\u2010to\u2010state relations, and to negotiate and sign all international agreements.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade is entrusted with the formulation, promotion, execution and daily conduct of Zimbabwe\u2019s foreign policy.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry\u2019s overall mandate is to work for the realisation of Zimbabwe\u2019s foreign policy objectives. This is done by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>coordinating and aligning Zimbabwe\u2019s international relations<\/li>\n<li>monitoring international developments<\/li>\n<li>communicating government\u2019s policy positions<\/li>\n<li>developing and advising government on policy options to create mechanisms and avenues for achieving objectives<\/li>\n<li>protecting Zimbabwe\u2019s sovereignty and territorial integrity<\/li>\n<li>contributing to the creation of an enabling international environment for Zimbabwean businesses and investments<\/li>\n<li>sourcing developmental assistance<\/li>\n<li>assisting and protection of Zimbabwean citizens abroad.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Our National Interests include the following:<\/p>\n<p>(1) national security, peace and stability;<\/p>\n<p>(2) national development;<\/p>\n<p>(3) sovereignty and territorial integrity;<\/p>\n<p>(4) fostering of fundamental rights and freedoms;<\/p>\n<p>(5) food security; and<\/p>\n<p>(6) cooperation to shape an international system in which we can thrive on.<\/p>\n<p>Zimbabwe\u2019s National Interest display a people-centred, progressive and developmental outlook evidenced in its foreign policy, particularly as this has been expressed in the post-liberation canon of promoting Pan-Africanism, South-South solidarity and cooperation and multilateral cooperation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>History of Diplomatic Relations in Zimbabwe from 1980 to date.
